Indigenous Child Health


Overview

The Indigenous Child Health project aims to provide and promote health related issues within the Southside District. Establish networking relationships with the following community agencies:

  • Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • General Practitioners
  • Department of  Education, Training and the Arts
  • Community Organisations 
  • Indigenous Health Workers

 

Objectives

  • Planning and Implement Culturally Appropriate Resources to the community
  • Raise Awareness on health related issues by providing education and promotional resources
  • Target Child Health Checks for Indigenous Children 4-12 years of age
  • Working in Partnership with Children, Parents, Schools and Community Organisation
  • Implement early intervention and prevention initiatives aimed at Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander School age children and their families

 

The outcomes of the Indigenous Program include:

  1. Raise Awareness and Knowledge of health issues by delivering health promotional activities and resources within the community
  2. Strengthen Families and Communities by providing support and engaging good working relationships
  3. Increase number of Child Health Checks 4-12 years and meet all 8 key components of the Indigenous Child Health Program within the community.


 

Program Details

There are 8 key components that the Indigenous Child Health Program will target:

  • Child Health Checks 4-12 years
  • Indigenous Triple P
  • Health Activities and Nutrition
  • Hearing Health
  • Unintentional Injury
  • Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drug related harm
  • Skin Infections
  • Immunisations
