Quick and Easy Referral Pathway for GPs to Psychiatrists for Mental Health Patients for a one-off assessment 

General practice Liaison and Assessment Service (GLAS) provides a single “point of entry” service making referral simple and expedient for General Practitioners to a consultant Psychiatrist. 

Private psychiatrists based at Belmont Private Hospital offer appointments for MBS Item 291 (one-off) referrals through GLAS, a service jointly supported by Brisbane South Division and Belmont Private Hospital.

Within 1 – 2 weeks of your call, with management plan back to you within 2 weeks of the assessment

 

Referral Information

  • You will deal with only one person for all aspects of referral
  • Item 291 assessments are for patients you choose to manage in your practice
  • Appointments usually available within 1 – 2 weeks of request
  • Written diagnosis & management plan back to you within 2 weeks of the assessment
  • Individual billing by private psychiatrists
  • Brief protocol when you ring to ensure appropriate referrals

  1. Is your patient in a crisis situation? NO
  2. Will you be responsible for the continuing care of the patient? YES
  3. Is a one-off assessment and management plan appropriate support for your care of this patient? YES
  4. Do you require the assessment for a third party eg court, superannuation fund? NO
  5. Are there risk factors that would make attendance by this patient at private psychiatrist rooms inappropriate? NO
